Are you interested in philosophy? Ever grappled with ethical dilemmas and wished you had more guidance? Do you enjoy thought experiments? Join this class for a practical consideration of everyday ethical issues through the thought of three great philosophers.
We will begin by introducing the ethical thought of three great philosophers: Plato, Confucius and Kant. Their approach to ethical issues will be set out clearly and concisely, taking their historical and geographical contexts into account. Then we will consider some everyday ethical dilemmas, attempting to apply the ideas of these thinkers. We try to evaluate the usefulness of these ideas to modern life. Questions and discussion will be encouraged.
